Why a Drawing Video Has Space Above or Beside It

Understand how Speedpaint fits a complete image into a chosen aspect ratio, why margins appear, and when to keep the original image shape.

Different shapes cannot all fill the same canvas

A square picture and a vertical video have different proportions. There are three usual ways to reconcile them: stretch the image, crop its edges, or keep it intact and add space. Speedpaint's framing path fits the whole image. It does not silently stretch the subject or discard the edges to fill the frame.

That is why a wide drawing placed inside a vertical video can have space above and below it. The space is a consequence of fitting, not evidence that the renderer stopped drawing.

Use original framing when the shape matters

Choose Original in Studio when you want the canvas to follow your source. Choose a fixed ratio when the destination requires that shape, then inspect the fit before generating. A fixed ratio is a canvas choice; it does not reposition individual objects within your picture.

Existing whitespace inside the uploaded image also remains unless you intentionally prepare a different source. Changing the ratio cannot distinguish meaningful breathing room from an unwanted border.

Fill the frame without losing important content

If you need a full-frame composition, prepare an image in that ratio before upload. Reposition the subject in an image editor, or crop only where it is safe. Keep a copy of the uncropped source. A close crop can remove labels, outlines or the end of a character's drawing.

Background selection changes the surface behind the drawing, not the proportions of the image itself. Inspect dark backgrounds and transparent exports separately: the same amount of space can look different against each.

Before downloading or publishing, review the complete video at the intended display size. A preview crop that hides edges is not proof that those edges are missing from the exported file.
